Winter Ball

Winter Ball

Well there it was, Park Hall Chorley, a more enigmatic location you will not find. 40 minutes down the motorway and about four hundred well turned out Cartmelian’s poured from those spectacular five seat wide coaches, though perhaps the choice to fit a few extra people on each coach instead of booking one more and making sure they all had a toilet was putting too much faith in the colleges ability to hold their drinks. Anyway, we arrived in our droves and swanned into the majestic and need I say believable medieval room where we were all greeted by friendly…

Bye bye magazine!!!

This is mine and Mattt’s final magazine…EVER.
We are going to be very sad to leave but we do leave you in the seemingly capable hands of two young creative writing students. So should they not be creative, you know what to do!

“Meeting loads of amazing new people, having the chance to turn the magazine around and being part of the best team has been my…

Griffin Awards

The Winter Ball was host to the awards ceremony of the 2007 Cartmel College Griffin Awards, presented by myself and Mattt.

Before going on to re-iterate the winners names, or reveal them for those who weren’t at the ball I would like to just clarify a few points:

When presenting the awards I could in fact stand up, I was only on my knees near the floor as I had very securely packed the awards for transport. I mean we did not want them getting scratched. Also I the lighting on the stage above our heads was not that fantastic, hence the…

Muppet Christmas Carol
Probably the best Muppet movie ever made. Gonzo retells the classic Charles Dickens story of the cold-hearted Ebenezer Scrooge (Michael Caine) and his ghostly visits from Christmas past, present and future. Available on DVD from most shops for a good price. Absolutely one to watch, and you’ll be tempted to watch it after Christmas is over.

Scrooged
A more adult version of the Charles Dickens classic starring Bill Murray. It is set in present day (well, the 80s when it was made) and this Mr. Scrooge must face his Christmas ghosts. Sadly no Muppets appear in this movie but it’s…

PLAYER PROFILE
Name: Paul Hinz
Age: 20 (Though he acts like a 92 year old)
Birthplace: Aldridge
Nickname: El Salmon
Position: Centre Forward
Preferred Number: 37
Heroes: Jari Litmanen, Eddie Murphy, Emile Heskey, Steve ‘The Cat’ Lawrence

Bio: Paul grew up on the tough streets of inner city Birmingham. He didn’t have to go looking for trouble, trouble found him. Living the rock and roll lifestyle, Paul could often be found starting fires and shouting ‘why don’t you die already?’ to the elderly patrons of his local Gala Bingo. He looked set for a life in prison or worse until he met…

I would like to do a big shout out to everyone that has got involved in the Carter Shield this term. We have earned quite a few points so far, and when the tables get rectified (as they are currently wrong) it looks like we will be 5th overall with less than 15 points separating us from 3rd place.

Most recently we came 2nd to Fylde in Korfball, losing out on penalties. We did however have the loudest cheer throughout the whole game, so we win on that front.

College Council

Our job is to attend College Council meetings with any feedback or opinions we have from Cartmel students. We are there to vocalise these views and to take note on agenda items of interest, which we then relay to the college.
