As I’m sure most of Cartmel were aware, this past Thursday elections were taking place for your JCR Executive 2009. These 18 elected candidates are voluntarily there to represent you in welfare/academic matters, organise sporting activities, arrange socials from your weekly Cash Countdown, to the huge events such as Extrav and Freshers Week. Cartmel College turned out in force with the HIGHEST turnout across the whole of campus with almost 400 people casting their ballots. So many people voted in fact that we ran out of ballot papers on numerous occasions!

Well, well, this week brings around a week of spooks, frights and general trick-or-treat delights! To celebrate Halloween on Friday we’ve got a number of events for you to enjoy throughout the week. I also hope you guys enjoyed the trip to Manchester’s TigerTiger and Morecomb’s LazerQuest last week as well, a class time was had by most of the people I talked to. Hey Guys I trust you have all finally recovered from the awesome mess that was Cartmels 40th Anniversary bash, it was a huge success with hundreds of people flooding Cartmel to dance the night away to 3am in the morning (I was one of the last few standing, props to you guys!). Hello (again) and yes we know that this already sounding like the front page of this lovely magazine (even if we say so ourselves), but at this point we’d like to tell you a little bit about what is in this issue.

We are Will and Jo, your Education and Welfare officers; in other words we are here, famously, to give out free CONDOMS!! Each year in Cartmel legions of loyal Cartmelians take part in hundreds of sporting activities as part of the college and university. Within Cartmel we have lots of teams from pool to netball which play in university leagues against other colleges. You’ve seen it in the Lancaster brochures, passed it most days being here, marvelled at its solid stone body and glass wall adorned with the Lancaster symbol, but what is it? Sat on the side of the roundabout in between the main entrance road and the underpass. Is it an archaic bus stop now redundant because of the ‘new’ underpass… erm, maybe, but since when did busses like to stop on roundabouts? Perhaps it’s just an expensive looking photo opportunity? Well in fact it is neither of these; it is the little known, rarely used hitchhiking point.

College Rebrand (Finally)
