Cartmel College (or the carnivorous caramel camels college)’s Freshers Week is fast approaching (Saturday 27th of September is Cartmel College’s moving in day), so here is a What’s On Guide to keep all you Cartmel Freshers entertained til the best week of your lives finally arrives! For those interested Lancaster University is holding Visit Days on Saturday the 20th of September - both of which I’ll be there to fend any Cartmel based questions you may have!

Arrival Day! This begins ASAP from 10am, and there’ll be plenty of people around to help you move in and unpack, as well as giving you your awesome Fresher Packs which will be full of random goodness! Orientation will begin in the Great Hall which is up campus at 6:30pm, so at around 5:30ish all Freshers will be gathered in their Kitchens with their Kitchen Reps to get to know each other before the socialising fun begins. Oh, and remember to eat food beforehand!
During the day you’ll have a couple of talks and registration procedures to attend but more information about these will be distributed in your Fresher Pack. In the evening we’ll be holding the Big Quiz and Scavenger Hunt, which will be an awesome chance to get to know all the other eager-eyed Freshers in Cartmel.
Four words. The! Big! Night! Out! This will be an awesome merrygoaround about campus and you’ll get to savour some of the best bars down in Lancaster town centre as well. More information about this awesome night will be revealed soon. Oh, and don’t forget to eat beforehand!!
Tonight in the Cartmel Bar at 8pm is our Casino Night which should be a great time to bust out our tuxes and little black dresses for a James Bond themed night of extravagence. Afterwards you’ll be heading off into Revolutions, a rather snazzy club in Lancaster town centre. Once again, don’t forget to eat beforehand!!!
Wednesday is now our designated chill out day! You’ll have to get through your course enrollment in the morning, and then in the afternoon take part in the Do Something Different events taking place in Alexandra Square - encouring you to take up a new hooby or try something different in the spirit of coming to University. Oh, and during the evening we’ll have a general chill-out night in the Cartmel Bar enjoying a film and food
Sports trials for our awesome pub sports teams will also be taking place as well.
The Freshers Fair is being held up in main campus in the Great Hall from 11am til 4pm, and is your main chance to a) stock up on stationary and freebies which shall last you til graduation and b) signup with any clubs or societies of your choose. In the evening is the C for Cartmel fancy dress on campus barcrawl to show you the sights that the other College bars have to offer; come dressed in any outfit beginning with C. We’ll be meeting at around 6:30pm. And what did we forget? Certainly not to EAT beforehand?!
The Freshers Fair returns again from 11am til 4pm, so if you missed it yesterday now is your chance to collect your free badges, spatulas, sweeties and other random stuff you’d never expect to find at University. In the evening they’ll be Pizza and Karaoke in the bar til late, giving you the chance you’ve been waiting for to warm up those vocal chords and let rip and possibly win prizes?! And how good is this, you don’t have to remember to eat beforehand this, because we’ll be stuffing you with food ourselves!
Now comes my personal highlight of Freshers Week - Alton friggin’ Towers! It will set you back £27.50, but it will be an awesome day and during this time of year queues for the rides won’t be as horrendous as they usually can be. For those who love rollercoasters you’ve got no excuses, and those who don’t will be sure to have an awesome day out laughing at the random faces those rollercoaster fanatics pull in those sneaky photos snapped at the most unflattering moment!
Today is a nice relaxing day with the good ol’ Quiz taking place in the evening at around 9pm, and will be your chance to hear the soothing Blackburn tones of our resident Quiz reader Social Sec Beth! It will cost 50p per person to play, but the winning team gets to take home a huge pot of the takings!
So that’s about it, hopefully you’ll all enjoy Freshers Week as much as we have all enjoying putting it together (although don’t forget all events and times are currently provisional, any changes to the schedule will be well publicized beforehand). If you’ve got any questions about Freshers Week then get in contact with our Vice President Emma who is in charge of putting this week together (kudos!).
For those who are signed up with Facebook, you can meet hundreds of prospective Cartmel College students by joining the official Cartmel College Facebook Group!
