Robbies Reviews - Juno

When you need to chill out and all you feel like doing is settling down with a film, how do you choose? Now you don‟t have to! Let Robbie be your guide to all things cinematic and electronic… (WINK!)

This film has been eaten up by critics as being a quirky and contemporary comedy which is both engaging and entertaining – with a 93% approval rating on rottentomatoes.com. Having seen the huge number of awards this film had been nominated for (and has since won, including “Best Writing” Oscar), I decided to see what all the fuss was about, and I’m sorry to say I was almost entirely disappointed by what I saw.

I feel, therefore, that it is my duty to break the mould and officially hate it. Some may feel that this is a little strong, as there is nothing essentially wrong with this film, but this does not stop it from being exceedingly dull. From the slow start, in which literally no event happens for almost thirty minutes, to the ultimately unexciting and predictable ending, in which, again, no event takes place, this film completely failed to impress me. Combine this with the “kooky” and “individual” music used in Orange mobile phone adverts that absolutely no one enjoys, and you have a one-stop ride to an absolutely terrible film with an inexplicably large Indie fan base.

Juno ReviewOn top of this, the film is widely described as a comedy. Regardless, I was only able to spot up to three genuinely witty jokes; the rest of the film being cluttered with obscure cult references which nobody will get, divided up by a disappointingly uninspiring romance (featuring the least believable characters ever to grace the silver screen). Without being cruel, I genuinely think I would have had more fun staring at a blank patch of wall for two hours than watching this drivel transpire.

In my opinion, this film should have been aborted early for the greater good. Ignore the “real” critics and mark my words – by next year this film will be gracing bargain bins at Tesco Extra stores across the country.
